What the TAC World Championships are and what they mean to us

1. TAC WM 2005The TAC World Championships are usually held every two years in the summer. It is the only TAC tournament that we at the publishing house organise and host ourselves. This three-day happening is limited to 64 teams and has always taken place in the vicinity of our headquarters.

World Cup is to be understood with a wink of the eye - we are more interested in the fun of the game and meeting and thanking you, the TAC community, than in the competition anyway. So it is our party for you from us. This also means that we want to set the conditions and, among other things, invite teams that have been particularly supportive of us in the past (sometimes difficult due to the pandemic) years.

2. TAC WM 2007

The organisation and hosting of the TAC World Championships is our private pleasure, the work for it happens almost all in our spare time. Be it the logging and publication of your tournaments over two years or the actual organisation, preparation and realisation of the party in the last months before the event. This only works as long as we have fun doing it. Due to our current workload, we have made things a little easier and less meticulous. The registration process should also be less stressful for us and you, but also more shirt-sleeved and not quite as prompt as experienced participants are used to.

Our dilemmas

3. TAC WM 2009Because of your always great desire to be able to participate in the world championship, we had to introduce qualifications one day. The qualifications reduced the last few years, but the theoretical number of participants was no longer sufficient. With more than 120 qualified teams, it is still well above the maximum possible and feasible capacity of 64 teams for 2023. As a result, we keep trying ways like drawing lots and the like to get to an independent selection. It really hurts us every time when not all teams can participate, but there is simply no other way.

Another factor are some established teams that are very involved in the TACommunity and for TAC and some of them have already participated in the TAC World Championships several times.  We would like to thank them by giving them the opportunity to participate, as most of these teams are qualified anyway. We would also like to give all tournament organisers a secure starting place, but since the enthusiasm is now so great and, wonderfully, so many tournaments are taking place, this alone would mean that there would be almost no place left for everyone else.

4. TAC WM 2011The four-year break since 2019 has also led to the accumulation of more teams than in a two-year rhythm. This concerns the number of qualified teams, but also the number of people who have supported you and us during this time (Oskar [TAC with Bug], Erik [Tuvero], Oliver [Online TAC] and many more), whom we would like to thank with an invitation.

We do have a world championship aspiration, a multicultural festival with teams from as many countries as possible is very important to us. Teams from Belgium, Iceland and Italy have registered for this World Cup, as well as teams from Norway, Romania, France and Russia. Most of these teams have qualified normally, but some have to be invited in advance, as it takes more time for them to plan their journey and they also have to be sure of their participation.

Moreover, we also have the great desire to welcome and get to know as many new players as possible.

7. TAC WM 2017In order to reduce your discontent if you cannot participate in a world championship even though you have qualified, we will probably adjust the qualification rules.

We hope for your understanding, for your fingers being crossed for the participating teams
and wish you, as well as us, relaxed, happy and peaceful days.
